The actual levels are also designed around the ability to level up your plants, resulting in much more difficult levels than in the international version, a change that I actually welcome. The leveling system is more simplified and is actually worth while to grind for. There are plenty of different ways to get puzzle pieces and there are plenty of exclusive plants (including the return of Gatling Pea, Cob Cannon and Cattail, as well as some pretty good new plants like Narcissus and Sunflower Signer). Want a plant? Just get 10 puzzle pieces for that plant and BOOM, you have a new plant. While the music sounds terribad and the aesthetics are downgraded from the international version, the obtaining of plants is handled WAY better here than the international version. Let me state that my personal favorite version of PvZ 2 is the Chinese version. That felt good to get that out of my system. You should NOT be able to kill zombies, boost up certain plants, and have other benefits, with a plant that costs 0 sun that can be used right as the level starts. Premium plants blow the standard plants out of the water anyway. Leveling-up for Adventure mode is a grind that is simply not worth doing. Leveling-up only really makes a difference in Battlez, which is a complete wash. LEVELING-UP FEELS COMPLETELY WORTHLESS AND UNFULFILLING.

People are boycotting this mode for a good reason, and I don't blame them one bit. The only real incentive to play Battlez is to maybe get some premium plants. Unlike the competitive mode in the console versions of PvZ 1 (which would of worked out better instead of Battlez IMO), Battlez is simply a grind for points. The fact that you can't try out any of these plants, or at least see what they do before you purchase them, (unless you get lucky to try them out in Epic Quests) makes this even worse.īATTLEZ IS A COMPLETE JOKE. The gemiums (premium plants obtainable through gems) are a little better, but with the ability to purchase gems, getting these plants is no more different than getting the other premium plants there's just an illusion that these plants are easier to get because they can be grinded for. I would argue that something as simple as being able to purchase Plant Food makes the game EXTREMELY PAY TO WIN, as is the ability to only get power-ups through purchasing them with coins. There are at least 20 plants that cannot be obtained through Adventure Mode and that must either be purchased or grinded for in Battlez. The shop sums up my single BIGGEST problem with the game. THE MICROTRANSATIONS RUIN ANY POSITIVES THAT PVZ 2 WOULD OTHERWISE OFFER. Was the level too hard? Pay up and get an advantage. EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF THIS GAME IS MONETIZED IN SOME WAY, AND IT REALLY TICKS ME OFF.

And it doesn't stop reminding you that it is very much a free to play mobile game.

Pianist Zombies are the stuff of nightmares, but I can't lie that their concept is still pretty unique.Įvery world feels distinct and contains some new mechanics in either the world itself or the plants obtained in them. Some of the new zombie types are really cool. In concept, they make the game too easy, but the game is designed around these mechanics. Plant Food is a pretty good new mechanic, as are the power-ups. Not saying that the original game's soundtrack is bad Zombies on Your Lawn will always reign supreme as the best track in the whole series. The number of unique tracks is increased ten-fold every world having separate first, midwave A and B, and final wave themes. There's a good reason I made a complete soundtrack for the game I just liked the music way too much to not do it.

PvZ 2 goes for a cartoon look more akin to younger-oriented TV show, an art style which I think fits the tone of PvZ better than the first game did. The first game, looking back, had an art-style that felt like a somewhat serious teenage cartoon (in terms of lighting and design). I remember the hype leading up to the game's release (I don't remember if Canada got it early, but it felt like I played it in July. This post is likely to my most controversial thing I post on here a piece about why PvZ 2 is not very good.įor the record, I have played PvZ 2 since launch.
